This most celebrated of events has art enthusiasts flocking to little Sausalito over Labor Day weekend, reveling in both the magnificence of the city and the beauty of the art that bedecks it. According to organizers, more than 1 million visitors have experienced the Sausalito Art Festival since its inaugural event in 1952, giving the art festival bragging rights as "America's number one outdoor fine arts festival." The festival's 50th anniversary was celebrated in 2002 with 20,000 works of art and 30 performers on three stages. The event takes place in downtown Sausalito.
